Happy New Year 2018!

What a year! Graduating from the BFA program at the University of Alberta has brought with it a new found freedom! Splitting my time between my home studio and the print studio at SNAP in Edmonton, AB is providing the right mix of community and solitude. Expressive approaches to image making is liberating! I look forward to a year of developing this abstracted language and showing my work! Happy New year everyone!

I started teaching with the City Arts Centre in Edmonton this summer. I taught a floral workshop to beginner painters in August and am currently teaching level 1 and 2 Acrylic Painting and Travel Journaling. The students are great to work with, all of them have been very enthusiastic about learning. I work at setting them up with the foundations of drawing and painting with the goal of having them be successful with incorporating creativity into their lives in what every they way they intend. It is really great to be a part of the students journey to creativity and art appreciation! I am so proud of every one of them!

Quite a bit of time has passed since my last post, so I figured I would update those of you who are still following my blog on what I have been up to. After graduating in the spring from the University of Alberta with a BFA, I jumped right into the Society of Northern Alberta Printmakers studio to start some printmaking projects. I also continued working on paintings, first having a rented space, but soon discovering I needed to have the painting part of my practice at home as I tend to work late into the night when I paint and did not need a forty five minute commute between me and my bed at the end of painting sessions.

Transitioning from three years of full time studies to professional art practice after Undergraduate studies has not been easy. I discovered I needed to heal, being kind to myself and allowing for a margin of time to discover new routines, new ways of seeing the world, and new ways of expressing my experiences. My work has shifted formally from representational to the abstract. I can not tell you how exhilarating it is to work in a way that is purely reactionary and expressive.

This blog has gone through many shifts, and now another shift is occurring. I will be sharing here my creative process, progress on projects, research and other things that feed into my creative practice. I invite you once again to join me as I work through life creativity.
